Butt joint welding refers to a type of welding in which two metal pieces / parts / strips are joined together using welding. In this welding method, the edges of the metal pieces are brought into close contact, and heat is applied to melt the edges. A filler material may be added to reinforce the joint, depending on the welding process being used.
Now, there can be multiple ways of welding that can be used to join these metal parts together such as : Arc Welding, Resistance Welding, Solid-State Welding. However, here we will be discussing Arc welding by CNC machine.
Butt joint welding is commonly used in industries like construction, automotive, and manufacturing, where strong and reliable joints are required. The quality of the weld is highly affected by the accuracy and skills of the worker who is assigned the task. However, a worker needs years of experience to deliver perfect quality of weld accompained with that a worker is a human being and things like saftey / protection gear must be provided to the worker. Also, it takes significant amount of money and time investment to produce quality of workers.
But these problems can be easily addressed by using CNC robotic machine. These machines are basically mechanical robots that are controlled by a computer using programs called the G-codes. The flex pendant can be found in the controller tab of the ABB robotstudio. Here you must click the input output button to access the flex pendant window. This is basically a handheld operator unit used to control the ABB Yumi. It consists of both software & hardware, and is needed for performing any operationsof the ABB Yumi, changing and execution of programs.

We can program a CNC robot machine to perform the task of butt joint welding using the ABB robotstudio software tool. Here, the first and the foremost thing is to import the Arc welding torch tool data. One added advantage that comes with imported tool data is that for the purpose of robot simulation, you will not need to create the tool data yourself completely from scratch.
